If you’re an oenophile, a wine enthusiast or just interested in expanding your wine drinking horizons, a day trip to Haak Vineyards & Winery is well worth a visit. Only 30 minutes drive from Bay RV Park, it’s the first winery and the only commercial vineyard in Galveston County. All of their premium wines are made here in Texas, providing plenty of options to choose from with tastings available on site for you to discover your favorites.
History Of The Vineyard
The vineyard is owned by local couple Raymond and Gladys Haak, who, for their 10th wedding anniversary, started experimenting with two Concord grapevines. The fun hobby soon developed into a serious passion for the pair, with Raymond testing multiple varieties of grapevines to uncover which ones could survive the harsh climates in Texas.
Discovering a hybrid grape variety that could grow well in hot and dry environments, Haak Winery became one of the first in the country to cultivate the grape known as Blanc du Bois and has gone on to produce numerous award-winning wines.
With humble beginnings, the winery now boasts three acres and almost 2000 vines, producing its first commercial Haak wine back in 2000. It’s now a significant tourist attraction in the area, attracting locals and tourists alike for its stunning location and delicious range of wines.
What The Vineyard Offers
When visiting, we recommend taking an education tour to learn about the vineyard’s history to discover its inspiration, including the passion and purpose behind the team. A wine club is available to join, offering no membership fees, exclusive first tastes, and 20% off all wine purchases. There’s also an on-site bistro with delicious options and plenty of opportunities for wine tastings!!

The vineyard is located at 6310 Avenue T, Santa Fe, TX 77510, and is open every day from 11 am (except Tuesday) until late. A visit offers not only stunning views, a cozy atmosphere, and delicious wine, but friendly and knowledgeable staff who can help direct you into choosing the perfect wine for you to enjoy on the day and take away with you if you prefer!
You can even opt for a private tour if you prefer a more intimate experience. You’ll get to taste five pre-selected wines as well as a full glass of your favorite. Ask your guide to reserve a table for you after the tasting to relax and enjoy the bistro.
