The fishing areas are busy all year for family and sport fishing. The Texas City dike is a 5 mile long “dike” built out into the Bay which affords the public fishing all along its sides.
What kind of Bait for fishing in Galveston Bay?
Bait is available at public piers, stores, filling stations and bait camps. You can find frozen squid, shrimp, shad, mullet for fishing. Chicken necks in grocery stores for crabbing. Live bait shrimp, mullet, and small crab are available for sport fishing from boats and wadding.
What can you catch while fishing in Galveston Bay?
Fishing in Galveston Bay is diverse, with lots of fish species that range from small croakers and catfish to large sharks. Your fishing success will depend on the time of year, the weather, and the tide. Experienced fisherman prefer an incoming tide but an outgoing also makes for successful fishing but a tide that is not moving will usually mean fish are not biting. Died bait fish are Sand Trout, Catfish, Gafftop, Black Drum, and Croakers. Live bait are Flounder, Redfish and Speckled Trout.
